Drying Cloth Diapers

When choosing your cloth diapering system, check to see what the average drying time is for a load of diapers. Very thick fitted diapers take a long time to dry, as all of the fabric is sewn together. Fitted diapers that feature fold-out inner panels, like the Baby Love Fitted, take a short amount of time to dry as the panel folds out during the wash/dry. (A load of 24 Baby Love Fitted diapers only takes about 20 minutes to dry in the dryer.)

Square (flat) diapers dry very quickly, as they unfold to just one layer of fabric in the washer/dryer.

Certain prefold diapers will dry quickly, although this depends on how many layers they have in the centre.

Also check to be sure that the diapers can go into a machine dryer - if the diapers can't be dried in a dryer this is a sign that the fabrics used are not high quality, and likely won't withstand the frequent use that a diaper goes through.

Hang/air drying cloth diapers will help them last longer, as the fabric isn't being tumbled. (The lint that comes out of your dryer is actually fibres of the fabric that have come off during drying.)
